A short time ago we took a look at the eTimeInc Software-developed application Auto Shutdown PC, a useful application you can use to automatically shutdown your Windows-powered computer at a specific time. Useful as Auto Shutdown PC is, it isn’t offered free of charge – it’s only free to try (30-day trial). That’s a problem for people who do not want to part with their hard earned money. It’s also a problem for the developer who can lose users in favor of freeware applications that offer similar functionality.

One such application is the Denis Kozlov-developed Shutter. Offered free of charge, this application allows you to do the following:

- Automatically shutdown, log off, restart, hibernate, lock the computer at a specific time or when a certain condition is met. For example you can set it so the computer will be shut down automatically after 30 minutes, or to be automatically shut down at 11:59PM. You can also set it so the computer will be shut down automatically when Winamp stops, when a process stops, when a window is closed, or when the user is inactive.
- Automatically turn off the monitor or mute master volume at a specific time or when a certain condition is met.
- Display an alarm at a specific time or when a certain condition is met.

To enjoy the functionality this application provides there area a couple of simple steps you must go through first, steps that will take very little time to complete. I am of course talking about downloading and installing the application on your Windows-powered PC.

Downloading Shutter will only take a moment and for good reason – the download weighs in at a mere 667KB. At such a lightweight download size, it will only take a moment to get the application off the web and onto your computer. To my mind, it’s always nice when you don’t have to wait a long time for a download to complete.

Installing Shutter will complete in little time as well. Simply launch the executable you downloaded, follow the instructions presented by the setup wizard, and you will be done before you know it. Shutter on your Windows-powered PC is a simple, straightforward process that goes along smoothly and rapidly.
